GREEN ISLAND IS QUEENSLAND’S FRIENDLIEST BEACH!

Green Island Queensland’s Friendliest Beach

Green Island, 11 December 2007: Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef has been named Queensland’s Friendliest Beach at the annual Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge awards.

Green Island was awarded the Tourism Queensland Friendliest Beach Award in recognition of the importance of visitor hospitality and safety.

With visitors from around the world enjoying Green Island’s beach activities, rainforest boardwalks and local community events throughout the year, it is a wonderful accolade for all involved.

“This is a collaborative effort and is an outstanding achievement by Island’s staff and stakeholders including Green Island Resort, Great Adventures and the Quicksilver Group, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services,” said Tony Baker, Quicksilver Group Managing Director.

Green Island was recently acknowledged at the regional Far North Queensland Awards with two titles: “Tourism Queensland’s Friendliest Beach” recognising, and the “Environmental Protection Award” for the protection and management of the natural environment.

The Clean Beach Challenge is a fun, competitive program to help keep Queensland's beaches litter free, and to encourage local governments and their communities to work together. Around 170 beaches from throughout Queensland enter the Clean Beach Challenge every year.
