After several weeks and $3million, Quicky 8 is back, better than ever!
Quicksilver’s flagship wavepiercing catamaran, Quicksilver VIII, or Quicky 8 as she is affectionately known, has just undergone a complete four engine refit and is now back on her regular outer reef cruise taking our guests to experience the magnificent Agincourt ribbon reef.
The 45metre wavepiercer was fitted with four MTU 2000 series diesel engines, providing a phenomenal 40% weight reduction from the previous engines and a very impressive reduction of carbon emissions by 20%.
Back at the helm, skipper Andy Kramer said “All the crew are very excited and happy to see her back in Port, she’s looking great. She’s buffed and polished and looking like new.”
“It was a very successful refit and we have achieved what we set out to do. With her cruising speed of 30 knots, she is running beautifully, more fuel efficient and more environmentally friendly.”
Tony Baker, Managing Director of the Quicksilver Group said it’s fantastic to have Quicksilver VIII back on the run and congratulated the engineering crew, the team of tradesmen and other staff involved.
“The refit was a huge undertaking and was managed in-house by our engineering team.
“At a cost of $3million, the refit and new engines were a considerable investment. With significant advances in technology, the choice of these engines ensures we will continue to deliver the “best practice” we strive for as a company. They will also allow us to reduce our carbon emissions by about 20%, reinforcing our commitment to the environment and sustainability,” said Mr Baker.
Fast, spacious and luxurious, the technologically advanced wavepiercing catamaran ensures the smoothest and most comfortable journey in all weather conditions.
We look forward to welcoming you and your customers aboard Quicksilver VIII soon to experience our world renowned outer reef experience.
