On a beautiful sun-kissed day, Green Island was certainly the place to be on Sunday 13 July for Great Adventures annual Green Island Family Day.

Now ongoing for over 10 years, the Family Day is a wonderful community event with discounted fares, loads of island activities and a great fundraising day for local charity.

And fun was the order of the day. There was pirate’s treasure to be found on the island treasure hunt, fun beach games for the kids (and their parents!), sand creations to be made, and in between, discovering the reef in a glass bottom boat!

The very groovy reggae band entertained guests poolside while on the beach, the main event throughout the day saw 16 teams vying for glory in the annual beach volleyball challenge.  This year the challenge raised over $1000 for YAPS, a very worthy local animal welfare group.

Congratulations to the 2008 volleyball champions, Queensland Health and of course, the “Wooden Spooners”, the ‘Shark Bites’ from Cairns Indoor Sports.
