VINTAGE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FLAG VISITS AGINCOURT REEF

National Geographic Society Vintage Flag

It’s been to the moon, the North and South Poles, the top of Mt Everest and now to Agincourt Reef!

The symbol of adventure and discovery for over a century, the National Geographic Society’s flag, visited the Great Barrier Reef recently during a National Geographic Expeditions trip - fittingly aboard our adventure dive and snorkel vessel Silversonic.

While at the reef, expedition members took the opportunity to photograph the flag at this living natural wonder.

The National Geographic Society’s flag has been carried on hundreds of expeditions to all corners of the globe and beyond. The flag’s first assignment was the 1903 Ziegler Polar Expedition to the Arctic and since then has been on hundreds of Society expeditions, including treks to both the North and South Poles, the 1935 Explorer II Stratosphere flight, to the summit of Mount Everest and on all of the Apollo space missions.

The flag’s colours of blue, brown and green symbolise the earth, sea and sky.
