Scuba Santa Dives in to help Local Charities
11th November 2008: Scuba Santa was a unique spectacle as he dived in to aunch the 5th annual Quicksilver Group Christmas Charity Appeal at the Cairns Lagoon.
Each year the Quicksilver Group co-ordinates this tourism-driven appeal and also donates funds to help buy gifts, toys and food items for those in need in our community through assisting local charities of St. Vincent's, Lifeline, The Salvos and the Douglas Community.
"We all know it is going to be a tough year for a lot of people so in addition to support from the tourism industry, we are inviting the general community to join us this year in this rewarding endeavour," said Megan Bell, Quicksilver Group Director of Marketing.
"The charities have given us direction for the most needed food and gift items, so we ask the community to dive into Christmas this year with us, our local tour desks and local suppliers.
"It's a way we can all give something to those needing a little extra help this Christmas."
We welcome food contributions including tinned ham, tinned vegetables, tinned fruits, lollies, chips, soft drinks, peanut butter, vegemite and other little luxuries. To top-up the toy gap, our chosen charities have requested toys suitable for ages 0-16, adult toiletries and gifts, as well as wrapping paper.
Our Quicksilver Group teams will be out and about collecting donations.
