QE2 VISITS THE TNQ REGION ...

Cairns, 26 February 2007

Around 400 Cairns locals had a rare opportunity to see the legendary cruise liner, Queen Elizabeth 2, up close when she dropped anchor off the coast of Yorkey’s Knob on Monday 26 February.

The early morning Great Adventures sightseeing cruise proved very popular with two vessels booked to see the majestic 293.5 metre ship – considered one of the last great Transatlantic liners. On her Silver Jubilee – 25th world cruise, the QE2 was in Cairns for a brief stopover of just 11 hours before continuing her cruise through the Far North and onto Papua New Guinea.

It was a busy day for the Quicksilver fleet with the Reef King and Silverswift II doing ship-to-shore transfers throughout the day as guests disembarked to experience Cairns and our tropical surrounds.

The legendary Queen Elizabeth 2, one of the world’s most famous
and luxurious passenger liners. She is considered one of the last of the great Transatlantic ocean liners.

Since she was launched by Queen Elizabeth II in 1967, she’s had an amazing history with many remarkable achievements. We hope you enjoy some of these interesting facts and our up close
and personal view of maritime royalty!

About the naming of the QE2 ...

The ship is named Queen Elizabeth 2 in honour of the original ocean liner Queen Elizabeth, not our reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. This is why her name ends in 2, and not roman numerals II.

QE2 guests can choose from a fullworld cruise taking 108 days, or various segments, such as The 6day Transatlantic crossing. Costs vary according to the categories of accommodation.
