CELEBRITY HONEYMOONERS VISIT GREEN ISLAND:
Cairns, Queensland – It was a day of high spirits when Korean celebrity honeymooners JH & EY Kim cruised with Great Adventures to Green Island.
Mr. Kim, Korea’s Best Comedian for 2005, was all smiles as he helped his new bride, who is also a well-known musical actress, aboard the Great Adventures boat. “This is great,” said Mr. and Mrs. Kim. “We are excited to see the Great Barrier Reef and Green Island. Thank you so much.”
“When we have celebrities visit our region, it is a fantastic way to showcase Cairns,” said Megan Bell, Director of Marketing for the Quicksilver Group of Companies. “It acts as a great motivator for other couples to also choose Cairns as their honeymoon destination.” The Kims spent five days in Far North Queensland, taking in the sights of the rainforests, hot air ballooning over the Tablelands and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef.

"KEEPING IT CLEAN"...
Employees and friends of the Quicksilver Group of Companies used their day off on Sunday to participate in “Clean Up Australia Day”. Whilst some cleaned up the sides of Port Douglas Road, others scoured the beaches of Green Island to see what the tides and tourists had left behind. A tropical shower did not deter the rubbish rebels as they went looking to fill their bags with trash. The most unusual debris found were sunnies, a toothbrush, old mooring lines, old bottles and a wire hanger, while the most abundant form of rubbish was cigarette butts. "We covered the same stretch of Port Douglas Road that that we did last year and there was a lot less ... Read Full Story |

Face painters, colouring contests and a bunny hop sack race filled the morning with everyone enjoying a laugh and a prize whilst Juanita from 4 CA FM broadcast live reports. “Today was a fantastic day for all the families that joined us on Green Island,” said Megan Bell, Director ... POSTCARD 1: Bridgett & Vail families: October 2005
"We spent the day on board SilverSonic on Saturday 22 October 2005. We were a party of eight, 4 adults and 4 kids. I just wanted to say that every one of us had a fabulous day. The crew were awesome, very attentive, friendly and happy. The sites we visited were spectacular and the diving instructors (particularly Taka and Yuki) were outstanding.
Infact, if not for the encouragement of Taka I would probably not have made my first ever dive. So in closing this is just a big THANK YOU from the Bridgett family and the Vail family for making our day on the reef unforgettable." |

CORALS... (Bio Bit #11)
Whilst you are at the reef, have a close look at the different types of coral. Staghorn corals form vast beds in the protected shallow lagoons, and are one of the most abundant and colourful of all corals. Boulder corals are solid and can be very old (up to 1000 years), with soft corals occupying the reef flats and reef fronts as they are more adept at dealing with wave motion. |

80,000 DIVERS CERTIFIED...
With thousands of divers jumping into the Pro Dive pool since its 23 years as PADI dive instructors, the 80,000th (diver) made the biggest splash this year. On February 10 German tourist Annette Weinhold received her PADI instruction like everyone else but felt as though she won the dive lotto when she was told of her milestone certification.
“I couldn’t believe it when they told me I was the 80,000th person to be certified, ”smiled Weinhold. “I was referred to ProDive Cairns from friends and I was extremely happy to have been taught by the best, most patient and understanding instructor, Nicole Harman. I think diving is a lot more fun than skiing or snowboarding, especially here. ”Along with her PADI certificate, Weinhold was given a $1000 voucher from Pro Dive, which she promptly used to sign on for a three-day, live-aboard Dive to Adventure trip. | |
