'Green Island Ocean Swim'
Get out the speedos – the great ‘Aussie swimming cozzie’ because the Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim is set to take place again on Sunday 14 October.
Last year’s successful inaugural event saw 64 swimmers aged from 12 – 76 years take part in the 1.5 and 3km swims on a glorious October day. There will also be a fun ‘Nippers’ swim for under 12s.
Typically the water temperature in October is 24 degrees with the air temperature around 28 degrees. The swims will take place on the leeward side of the island.
“This is an absolutely extraordinary place for an ocean swim,” said Ted Bunt, a long-time Australian ocean swimmer and top-10 finisher in the inaugural event. “To be able to swim on the Great Barrier Reef, with turtles and coral all around and Green Island right there, it is just magic. This is truly a unique and special location for a swim.”
