GREEN ISLAND THE ‘FRIENDLIEST’ AND ‘ECO-FRIENDLIEST’ BEACH IN FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND
It’s official, Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef is not only the “friendliest” beach in Far North Queensland, it is also the most “environmentally friendly”.
Green Island has been acknowledged with two awards in the annual Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beach Challenge – “Tourism Queensland’s Friendliest Beach” recognising the importance of visitor hospitality and safety, and the “Environmental Protection Award” for the protection and management of the natural environment.
“This is an outstanding achievement and a reflection of the dedication of the Island’s staff and stakeholders including Green Island Resort, Great Adventures and the Quicksilver Group, and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services,” said Tony Baker, Quicksilver Group Managing Director.
“Operating in a World Heritage environment, we are acutely aware of the need to protect this special area while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for our visitors.”
“With visitors from around the world enjoying Green Island’s beach activities, rainforest boardwalks and local community events throughout the year, it is a wonderful accolade for all involved.”
This year, 113 beaches were vying for honours in the regional awards. |
