Great Adventures community event supports Animal Charities

Two local animal welfare charities have received some much-needed funds thanks to the recent Green Island Beach Volleyball charity event held during the annual Great Adventures Green Island Family Day.

The Green Island Beach Volleyball challenge, with 78 players from 13 competing teams, raised $1560 for the Young Animal Protection Society (YAPS) and the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (CTRC), with each receiving $780.

Sponsored by Great Adventures and Green Island Resort with the support of Cairns Indoor Sports, all player registration fees were donated to the charities.

"Both of these animal charities are well deserving community organisations and we're very pleased to be able to support the great work they do," said Michael Healy, Quicksilver Group Director of Sales and Marketing.

Great Adventures Green Island Family Day is a community event now ongoing for over 15 years with the charity volleyball challenge being a significant fundraising event and integral part of the day.

CTRC have worked with Great Adventures on several occasions with the release of turtles into the waters off Green Island, a significant turtle habitat. The donated funds will be used to feed turtles currently in their care.
