Green Island Reward for Colouring In Competition

A fun colouring in competition resulted in one lucky 8-year-old becoming the toast of her school by winning a class excursion to Green Island with Great Adventures.

With over 350 entries from 14 schools, Aloomba State School student Alex Godfrey's colourful entry won Great Adventures' recent News in Education (NiE) colouring in competition and featured the underwater world of the Squid Squad.

The winning entry enabled her to take the whole class to Green Island for the day but the with the lure of the Great Barrier Reef on their doorstep, the whole school of 80 students and 10 teachers travelled to Green Island in what the kids are calling "the best day of their lives!". Highlights included seeing a turtle and the reef interpretation talk by Great Adventures experienced guide Cameron.

Aloomba School Principal, Robyn Corbett said the whole school was very excited about Alex's win and the opportunity to visit Green Island. "For many students it was the first time on a boat and to Green Island. As a Reef Guardian school, our students are very aware of looking after the environment.

Michael Healy, Quicksilver Group's Director of Sales and Marketing said "We were very pleased to provide this wonderful school prize and by participating with NiE, it enables us to involve local schools in reef education and to learn more about the environment we live in."
